The real risk is a problem of perception. Its a problem with enormous consequences over the long term, but with little that is sharply visible on a personal level in the short term.
I attended Brown University and received my BFA from the Rhode Island School of Design in 2012. Before I completed my MFA in Time Based and Interactive Media at the University of Pennsylvania, I worked for the Wier/Stewart Advertising Agency, completed an independent studio project at the Arctic Circle, and raced road bikes. I have participated in both solo and group exhibitions throughout the Southeast, New England, New York, Philadelpiha, Los Angeles, Dallas, and in Rome, Italy and I currently work in my studio in Philadelphia.
When working on a project I always begin with drawing and writing. Depending on the needs of the project I may also use tools such as 3ds Max, Rhinoceros, CNC Milling, 3D Printing, Laser Cutting, Mixed Media Animation, woodworking, the Adobe Creative Suite, Video and Sound. I often complete commissioned work for both private and commercial clients - send me a line if you are interested in working with me on exhibition installations, motion graphics, or custom fabrication.
Teaching not only allows you to refine and build your toolbox as an artist and maker, but it allows you to meet other artists and designers at their needs by troubleshooting conceptual and technical problems.
ANIMATION AND 3D MODELING
I teach traditional animation principles such as stop motion animation and rotoscoping using Adobe After Effects, Adobe Illustrator, scanning, drawing and Photoshop. I also teach students how to create 3D animations in 3Ds Max, how to composite video, how to edit sound and set up lighting for stop motion animation, and the
principles of texture mapping and artificial lighting. Depending on the needs of the class we may delve into camera tracking and masking, generating advanced tools like paritcle physics with MaxScript, or we may choose to work more dimensionally in Rhinoceros to create 3d prints or CNC milled reliefs.
